Pet Cremation Service

Pet Cremation Service

Memorial card

We at Island Sanctuary are so proud of being the pioneers in offering cremation service. This was possible to all of you out there who gave a donation being small or large and to Best Deal Properties who recognised our ambition and gave us the rest of the money required. To all of you we say thank you for your continued  patience and support.

Over these last five years with the help of this service, we have solaced a number of families who experienced the departure of their beloved pet/s. We have learned immensely during this journey and bettered our procedure accordingly with the help of and thanks to the members of the public, for whom this service was established. We are very often encountered with similar queries related to this service and this is essentially the purpose of this article:

The Island Sanctuary is a Voluntary Organisation (i.e.: it is run by a number of well dedicated volunteers) and is home to some eighty homeless or abandoned dogs. It is only a select few of the said volunteers that perform incinerator related duties and primarily for this reason; the incinerator at The Island Sanctuary is operated at a frequency of three or at most, four times a week (with one cremation cycle per operation), depending on either volunteers’ availability or sanctuary priorities.

The cremation service at The Island Sanctuary is available solely, and with no exceptions, to departed, domestic pets only. We call it a service, not a business – because we consider it a service to grieving owners. Which means we treat your pets as we would treat ours – with care and dignity. And though we do charge for it, money is not our priority. There are set fees which are very reasonable and affordable. Any profit we make after the running and upkeep of incinerator and other overheads is part of our fundraising for the sanctuary. You will ALWAYS get a receipt from us with the amount that The Island Sanctuary receives.

The incinerator capacity is limited to only a finite amount of well separated pets per cycle. One cycle typically lasts as long as seven hours (cremation duration) in total, which is followed by a twelve  hour incinerator cooling down period prior to which ashes may not be processed.

Furthermore, the cremation service is provided on a scheduled appointment basis only. One may book an appointment by phoning the Island Sanctuary Pet Cremation scheduler on the sanctuary mobile phone: 79018901. You will be briefed about the service and will be given the contact numbers of the ‘collectors’ who are licenced to store deceased pets on their premises.

Once you know where your pet will be stored you can send a message with these details: Name and Surname, Name and Type of pet, Breed/Size of pet and Name of collector. You will then receive a message informing you of the date of the cremation and the date when to collect the ashes. If you can not collect the ashes on the day specified please call to confirm dates of collection as these may change. No pets are stored at our premises. Your pet will be brought over to Island Sanctuary at the time given for the cremation service.

The collector’s service also comes at a charge – and we have no control over this since they set the price themselves.

Should you have an appointment and need to opt out for one reason or another, it is only fair that you inform us at your earliest as there may be others waiting for their appointment to cremate their pets.

On behalf of all The Island Sanctuary volunteers and our beloved sanctuary dogs, we wish all families and their much loved pets long, happy, healthy lives together.
