Memorials
Pets have long been a part of our lives, many are considered to be members of the family and as such are deserving of the same attention both in life and in death. When experiencing pet loss, many pet owners wish to memorialize them with a pet memorial. This section will be dedicated to those pets that have crossed the rainbow bridge. We invite you to share your favourite photo and memories of your pets here. We also dedicate this page to our beloved sanctuary dogs that cross over.

Mimi my dearest, my sweetest baby, my forever love…. In the five unforgettable years, you were my sunshine, my happiness, my life. Every moment with you was precious. The vicious kidney disease took you away from me. You left so soon, too soon….Oh my baby, you have not left me and will never leave me, because you live forever in my heart, your beautiful spirit is and will always be with me.
Fly high, my Angel, wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge, until we meet again for Eternity. ❤️
After 10 blissful years full of love, fun and happiness that you brought at our place at work it was time to let you go our precious baby. You will be missed for the rest of our life and never forgotten. The place at work is nothing without you. Feels so empty and cold. We loved you darling and hope you are now flying free of pain and happy. We love you Tusi boy. Never forgotten.

A year has passed since our sweet Luna crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Accepting her loss has been a long and painful journey. Today, we speak of her with a bit more serenity, but life is not the same without her. A piece of our heart is missing.
The new habits at home are a constant and silent testament to your absence. Luna, you have been and will forever be an irreplaceable part of our lives. In the quiet moments, we feel the void you left, and in the echoes of everyday life, your presence is sorely missed.
Rest peacefully, dear Luna, knowing that your memory will always linger in our hearts
Farewell my Lovely, my Tuzla, closest to a daughter we were ever destined to have, born as a stray in spring 2005 in Bosnia, passing away January, 15th, 2023, on the island of Malta, cremated at Island Sanctuary in February.
Amazing Cinderella that you were, born in the brave city of Tuzla, that was never captured during the war, where I happened to hear your pleading kitten meows during a business dinner. Afterwards we travelled across the post war countryside from hotel to hotel to eventually fly westwards much to the joy of the warmhearted Bosnian people we met.
You were living your life in Bavaria on a large estate with a park garden and companion cats and guard dog to the fullest by the Grace of the God who gave you your life and took it from you on January, 15th, 2023, stopping short of your 18th Birthday which would have been in Malta.
Farewell my Love Tuzla, forever farewell, and be blessed on your journey!
You were my last link to the past and to ALL
that once had meaning in my life! Farewell!
Farewell my Dearest,
Go on your journey steadfast like I do
leaving known shores behind
FOREVER.
We lost our best friend and very dear family member. His name was Lucky, he was almost 15 years old and was such a loving cat and best friend to his companion Lily. He died peacefully after 3 weeks of being ill. He will never be forgotten. Michelle and all the family 27 -09-2021

MISS YOUUUUU XXXXX MAMANJELL AND PAPANJELL
Teddy was so special. He sometimes reminded me of my little sister, who died, when I was a kid. Teddy
had a keen sense for my moods and balanced them out. Sometimes he put his head under my armpit, that
was HIS way of showing affection….and when he was in pain, he was curring like a pigeon to show me how he felt. I never have thought that within 18 months, I could love someone so much. Thank you, Teddy.
Your brother René

Our loving Chloe of 2 years and 8 months passed away on the 22nd November 2019 😥 You left us so soon and so young and you left us heart broken but the most important thing is that you’re not suffering anymore.
Truly missed by all of us and your sister Minnie

Freak (August 2017) and Pippo (August 2019) have been my best buddies for over 15 years. I found Freak, about two years old, in March 2003 coming out of a business meeting, a small, black shape on the edge of a very big street, which was escaping, as I later discovered, by owners who abused it. Together we met Pippo, a young stray dog, in May 2009, in a camping site, and when our vacation was over, while we were preparing everything to take away, Pippo got into the car and sat down on the passenger side. Both have always been, in our daily long walks as in holidays or weekly trips, or in everything/time we shared, without a leash: a word, a shout or a look have always been enough to communicate between us. Special Souls will never be forgotten, run on the rainbow bridge, until we meet again. Thanks for choosing me, with much Love Roberta
Rio one of our Sanctuary dog passed away this October. Rio was found roaming outside with a choke chain tied around his neck. It was so tight that it was very difficult to remove. Poor Rio still had the scar under his neck. Rio liked to choose his friends. With regards to dogs he preferred the females and as for volunteers… there are a few who were not allowed in his pen!! With the rest he acted like a little puppy. He used to go for walks with Claudette and Nicholas two of the volunteers, whom he adored. All volunteers will miss you dear Rio king of the sanctuary ❤
Petitu – 4th October 2019
Petitu gave us 15 amazing years – And we couldn’t ask for more.
Thank you and rest in peace ❤

Gorg one of our Sanctuary dogs passed away this February. He was admitted from Animal Welfare some years ago. He was a really friendly dog who loved our company – and food! During the hot summer his favourite place was the the plastic pool by the kitchen. He used to run around exploring the sanctuary, then flops down in the pool to cool down! we will miss you dear George.
Betsy – 5th December 2018
You gave us 18 sweet years. Sadly missed but never forgotten. Till we meet again dear Betsy.

We brought Kyra from Gozo SPCA after we lost Chloe who also was from SPCA. Chloe died in our hands on Xmas eve but unfortunately Kyra was not so lucky because although she was in the company of her sister, she died at the pet sitter during the night. I was abroad and could not do anything but I know that if I was here the same thing would have happened because they loved going to the pet sitter, they loved her and wagged their tail when I took them. I had her for nearly 7 years but she was about 5 when we adopted her, this is the “disadvantage “ of adopting an older dog, you can be selfish and get a puppy so you will have more years but I never regret adopting Kyra because all the love and entertainment she gave us is unforgettable, we love you so much my dear Kyra. Rest In Peace my love and thank you for giving us all the fun and love we shared during your short stay with us. Patricia.
Memorial for Matty – 11th October 2018
Our dearest Matty, you left us so suddenly. You filled our heart with so much love each and every day. Those lovely big amber eyes will never be forgotten and the memories we shared will always be in our hearts. You are now at peace and hope that one day we will be reunited and hold you one more time forever.
Much love – J, C, K and B
Sweet 16 year old Buttons was admitted to the sanctuary after her owner passed away. Buttons always lived in a yard, on her own, so it wasn’t too difficult for her to adjust to sanctuary life. She took a couple of weeks to settle, but then it was as if she had always lived at the sanctuary. Sadly she crossed over today 4th December 2017 in the arms of one of the volunteers. Run free dear Buttons. Till we meet again.
Louie, you did beat all the odds and lived a full 16 years. A happy cat that shared your life with cats and dogs alike. Run over the rainbow bridge, until we meet again you beautiful soul.
Samira (Sami) with such a lovely colour of fur came to us and we loved her immediately. She had bravely suffered through a lot of operations, as told by the vet who treated her on behalf of Island Sanctuary. She had fit in so well with our family and we enjoyed each others company and love for 12 years. Sami always looked forward to the long walks, especially trying to catch the gekkos. She once suffered a ‘bloat’ and we thought we had lost her, but she battled on and enjoyed many more years with us and our other dogs. The years passed too quickly and she started to suffer from various ailments but while she still looked forward to her daily meals , we continued to do everything to keep her happy and comfortable until the end. Sami crossed over in February 2016 and we still miss her dearly.
Beyond The Rainbow
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that’s trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful — lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I’m alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
‘Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we’re never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.
