On the initiative of Mr. Edward Hamilton from Frank Salt (Real Estate) Ltd., a group from the Letting Department wished to offer their help in whatever was necessary at the sanctuary. This was greatly welcomed, since we were about to give a good cleaning to each pen to prepare for the winter season.
The day chosen was Wednesday 5th October. Quite a number of people turned up and along with them came loads of tinned food, dry food, all sorts of treats etc., (as can be seen from the photos). Simply amazing!!!!!

They divided into groups, a sanctuary T-Shirt was given to each person and a good number of pens were given a thorough clean up.

All were so enthusiastic and eager to help no matter what it took, even if it meant getting dirty!!!!!:-) Yes they didn’t mind it at all, on the contrary, they made sure to get dirty!!!!!:-) In return they got plenty of thank you kisses from the occupiers of those pens!!!!!:-)

On behalf of the volunteers but especially the dogs at the sanctuary I would like to heartily thank all of them.

We need more people like them. Getting dirty is nothing com

pared to the unconditional love and satisfaction you get in return from these wonderful creatures who have suffered so much because of human beings. We are always in need of volunteers. So let’s hope that if there is someone reading this article, and doesn’t mind getting dirty, he/she will be encouraged to join us. After sanctuary all it takes is a quick shower!!! I can assure you its worth it!!!!!

Regards to all

Gloria

9th October 2011! What a Memorable Day!!!

Open Day 2008 was a memorable one because His Excellency The Archbishop Mons. Pawl Cremona O.P.,a great animal lover, accepted our invitation gladly to come and celebrate Mass for us that year.

Open Day 2011 was a memorable one because of the huge amount of people that attended. We were flabbergasted!

This year besides celebrating the feast of St. Francis, we also dedicated it to STAR and other silent victims of animal cruelty.

Lately Graziella and Noelle joined me to organise fund raising activities, so along came new ideas as well and these were very welcome. Noelle came up with the brilliant idea to have a cake stall and a stand for the children where they could have face painting, which was so ably done by Marianne Saliba and fantastic balloon modelling by Sinead Mulvaney and Maxine Muscat. A friend of Graziella, Richard Pons, suggested we should have a coffee/tea/drinks stand, and even offered to take care of everything himself. Yes, of course, why not, so we decided to go for that also. So this year’s organisation of things turned out to be quite exciting, and a very busy one too. Graziella going round to find sponsors for the items we required and then Noelle on Facebook made an appeal for cakes and children’s attractions and goodness me what a response!!!!! So we were sure that we would have a table full of Cakes, Muffins, cup cakes, flans, scones, all sorts of biscuits and can’t remember what else!!!! Being our computer wizard, she also designed our Open Day Poster. I took care of the publicity, all that was required for the Mass and the co-ordination of the activity. All our stalls, bazaar and book fair were kept very busy throughout the whole day, so much so that we couldn’t stop for lunch. To be quite honest, we were so happy with the outcome that we never felt hungry!!!!:-)

Many dogs found sponsors and our dear Piercy also found a home. People were very satisfied with the many changes and improvements that they saw at the sanctuary and could see for themselves that the money they so generously give, all goes towards the welfare of our sanctuary dogs as well as to keep the place well maintained. Yes dear friends that is our aim: After suffering so much at the hands of human beings, we want to give them a life they truly deserve. So I’m sure that you are happy that your money is well invested!

The day reached its climax with the Mass. People gathered with their pets to give praise and thank God for His Creation. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Gwakkin Mercieca O.F.M. Cap, who also brought his dog Browna with him. It was further enhanced by the beautiful voices of the ‘Salm’ choir. All pets were blessed and a token was given to each family. I was so happy to see the excitement and eagerness in the people’s eyes to see what they were going to be given this year. This time it was a candle which was labelled with a beautiful picture of St. Francis surrounded by all types of animals together with a quote. During the Mass the weather started to get rather threatening but I believed that God was on our side and the He would keep it on hold. And so it was because as soon as everything finished and all was put back into place heaven opened its doors and rain and hail started to pour!!!!!

Our heartfelt thanks go to Mr. Peter Camilleri of Fotoclassic, St. Julians for the printing of the poster and for his yearly patience to take photos throughout the event. Mr. Richard Pons for offering to stay with the Drinks stand, the numerous people who offered to bake the cakes etc., Mrs.Lucia Camilleri of Di Rocco Ltd., for the disposable cups and spoons, Mr. Robert Farrugia of Alfons Ent. & Sons Ltd., for the tea/coffee/powder milk and sugar, Ms. Isabelle Abela from Simonds Farsons Cisk plc., for the drinks and flavoured water, Ms. Marianne Saliba for the face painting, Ms. Sinead Mulvaney and Ms. Maxine Muscat for the balloon modelling, All the volunteers who helped to put up the stands, and those who took care of them. The volunteers who took care of the book fair and the bazaar. Believe me, they didn’t have a minute break!!! Caroline(also a volunteer), of AF Sign Studio who took care of the labelling of the candle, Mr. Marcel J Stafrace of Fototek Services for donating a digital camera as a prize for the raffle, Fr. Gwakkin Mercieca O.F.M. Cap. who celebrated the Mass, the Salm choir, the media for publicising the event and to all those who in one way or another helped to make this day a tremendous success.

Thank you also to the Sunday Volunteers, as I am sure that we didn’t make their day an easy one because of the many activities and bustle that was going on, but I’m sure they were happy as well with the outcome!

A special thank you goes to you people who visited us. Your generosity helped us raise the beautiful sum of Eur3230.09. We promise that, as usual, it will be used in the best interest of our sanctuary residents. You give us the courage and strength to carry on. This event always takes place on the 1st Sunday after the feast of St. Francis, so make sure you take note and hopefully next year we’ll see you again!!!:-)

A great big thank you to Graziella and Noelle for their hard work and as Noelle said ‘Together we make a great team!’

This calendar year was marked, unfortunately, with horrible acts of animal cruelty. That of STAR and more recently of GAIA in Malta, others in Gozo and perhaps many other unknown. However, there are many many animal lovers as we could see from this day. So let us Stand Up for them and when there are manifestations/protests in the interest of these wonderful creatures, let us all be there.
We are their voices and together we can make wonders!!!

And: THANKS AND PRAISE TO YOU GOD FOR YOUR AMAZING CREATION

Best regards to all.

Gloria
